Open letter to PM Imran Khan on Islamophobia and Blasphemy Violence

On multiple occasions, Prime Minister Imran Khan has called-out Islamophobia and persecution of Muslims in neighboring India and in the West. Also, he is often seen apprising the West on the hurt sentiments of Muslims caused by blasphemous remarks made on religion. While the efforts of Prime Minister Imran Khan must be appreciated to ensure no Muslim feels hurt by hate speech, however, it must not be used as a shield for the rampant blasphemy-centric violence we have witnessed in Pakistan.

We call on the Prime Minister to also meaningfully address growing religious extremism and ensure that people are sternly prevented from misusing blasphemy laws through effective legislation. It is also very concerning that academia in Pakistan is also suffering due to religiously inspired mob and vigilante murders.
