UNICEF reported nine attacks on schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the first months of 2026 alone, disrupting education for more than 1,000 students and injuring two teachers and a school principal in a drone attack in North Waziristan. The UN Secretary-General’s reporting has also documented attacks affecting students, teachers and education personnel, while the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA) recorded at least 44 attacks on schools in Pakistan during 2024–2025, including 10 attacks on girls’ schools in 2024 and six in 2025. These figures make clear that protecting education cannot be reduced to building schools; it must also mean ensuring that children and teachers can reach, enter and use those schools without fear.
