On #InternationalWomensDay2021, Rabbia Arshad and Zeeba T. Hashmi discuss women issues, including Aurat Azadi March which has been caught the eye of bad press and propogandist.
They went through this year’s manifesto for Aurat March found it to be very well thought out, comprehensive and a much required document centering on #Health issues for all who identify themselves as women. We appreciate it from an intersecting education perspective.
1. It calls for introducing #HealthEducation programs for women so they are more aware about their health issues and make right, informed choices. #LSBE in schools and knowledge on #ReproductiveRights are important for girls.
2. It also points towards the the social tyranny of #ChildMarriages & #ForcedConversions and has raised concerns of the health and emotional trauma girl-child has to go through. It results in girls dropping out of schools, thus becoming exposed to more social vulnerabilities. Raising age of consent from 16 to 18 makes it fair for girls. Boys below 18 are considered minors uniformly across the country–why is the standard different for girls?
